The latter part of 2008 saw a dramatic increase by the engineering professions in the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM - an integrated 3D digital description of a building and its site), along with a continuing international uptake of BIM across all parts of the BE facility development industry.

This national conference, will examine the changes this new technology will have on the way the industry works - intensive multi-disciplinary collaboration, an evolution to integrated practice, new supply chain models, process enhancement etc.

The conference aims to bring together all key industry organisations  and federal and state Government agencies with responsibilities for building portfolios, procurement, sustainability, environmental performance and asset/facility management (such as DISSR, DEWHA, APCC, QDPW, for example).

The conference will include a diverse range of local projects & case studies, international speakers, and will highlight one day Collaboration Training workshops, where participants will work in pairs in each discipline group and develop the expertise to execute the chosen process (sender/receiver).

To enage the industry, buildingSMART is facilitating 5 workshops in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Brisbane, prior to the conference to focus on topics of high importance to present at the Conference. (For more details on these workshops see the Upcoming Events Calendar or follow the links above). The progressive results of the workshops will be loaded on to the Conference website.

Detailed preparations are underway and a major update will be made available in February.
